Opposition MPs Unbothered by Suspension from Parliament

A group of opposition legislators led by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP), Mathias Mpuuga, have accused the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, of unfairness.

While addressing journalists on Tuesday, October 18th, following their suspension for three days from parliament, the group claimed they were suspended without any justifiable explanation.

Joyce Bagala, the Mityana District Woman MP, claimed the suspension was only meant to deter opposition legislators from demanding their missing supporters.

“I really don’t care that I have been suspended, and I would like to say that the Deputy Speaker is really unfair because if you ask him why he suspended us, he wouldn’t explain,” said Bagala.

LoP Mpuuga described the suspensions as a sideshow in the Augusts, perhaps the reason why the video clip exposing the brutal arrest of Bobi Wine from the airport wasn’t played in parliament.

“The suspension is a very flimsy matter; we aren’t here for those flimsy and peripheral issues; we demand a durable constitutional order, a call for the rule of law to be entrenched,” said Mpuuga.

The suspended legislators include Betty Nambooze (Mukono Municipality), Joyce Bagala (Mityana), Derrick Nyeko (Makindye East), Frank Kabuye (Kassanda South), and Francis Zaake.
