Police in Omoro district have arrested a man accused of allegedly raping and murdering a 50-year-old woman.

The suspect has been identified as Ivan Opiyo Lanyet, a 23-year-old resident of Kiteng village, and the deceased was identified as Veronica Abong, a 50-year-old female peasant of the same village.

SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said the suspect reportedly broke into the deceased’s residence at night when she was asleep and allegedly raped her before strangling her to death.

According to Enanga, the suspect also stole clothes belonging to the deceased, set her house on fire, and burned the body beyond recognition.

Enanga said the suspect also stole chicken and eggs, among other items belonging to Alice Latigi, that same night.

The police have preferred murder charges against the suspect, who is currently in custody at Omoro CPS.
