A National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) staff member has lost his life while another was critically injured in an incident that happened at Katwe Market in Makindye division, Kampala district.

Meridi Twinomugisha, a 40-year-old male employee, died while repairing a damaged sewage line on July 29, 2024.

His colleague, Victor Baguma, who was injured in the incident is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.

According to SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the sewage line had been damaged by the ongoing road construction works in the area, which prompted the NWSC to send a team to repair it.

“A casual laborer died and another was critically injured this evening while repairing or unblocking a sewage line that had been interfered with around Katwe Market,” said Onyango.

SSP Onyango said an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident is underway.
