The interim president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction Elias Lukwago has vowed never to deliver his party to the National Unity Platform (NUP), as it has been alleged by those he called enemies of change.
According to Lukwago, some people are spreading propaganda that the leading opposition party, the NUP, is set to take over the FDC Katonga.
Lukwago, however, retaliated by saying that the FDC is ready to work together with the change-seeking forces to liberate Uganda from the sinking boat of President Museveni’s regime and not merge parties as alleged.
“There are those driving the narrative that the FDC is about to be liquidated by the NUP. But I want to assure you that as long as I am the president of FDC, the party will remain solid,” Lukwago said.
Lukwgo appealed to the party members not to buy into such propaganda, stating that it was intended to create fracas between the FDC, NUP, and other change-seeking forces in Uganda.
He added that FDC will remain principled in cooperating with NUP and other parties to prepare a united front, stating that a united front doesn’t presuppose a merger of parties.
He made these remarks during the press conference held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at party offices at Katonga Road in Kampala.
While speaking at the National Special Prayer organized by NUP at their new offices in Makerere Kavule on December 21, 2023, Lukwago pledged to rally in a single file with the NUP, ANT, and UPC until they attain power.
