Yusuf Mutembuli, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bunyole East constituency has said that the National Unity Platform (NUP) party supporters are not happy with Dr. Kizza Besigye’s courtesy visit to new party offices in Makerere Kavule during the opening ceremony organized by the party leadership on Friday, November 3, 2023.

While speaking on NBS during the morning Breeze political talk show on Monday, November 6, 2023, Mutembuli revealed that some supporters in NUP are not happy about the social call Besigye paid to their new party offices at Kavule yet he failed to work with his colleagues in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party to neutralize escalations.

“Not everyone in NUP was happy about inviting Besiyge. We are talking about a father who has failed to work with his children and we now expect him to work with NUP,” Mutembuli said.

According to Mutembuli, it seems the leaders of the FDC Katonga faction have lost legitimacy to their counterparts in Najjanankumbi which is why, they are looking for political space to expose their capabilities.

“They no longer have a home, and are now looking for political space to exercise their political capabilities,” he said.

He added that, political parties used to invite political parties but they are now inviting individuals who are disgruntled in their party, which threatens the peace of the hosting parties.

Mutembuli noted that, it’s good for NUP to get a home, however, they need to lift the veil to know if the office building belongs to the party or individuals.

Patrick Wakida, a political analyst said that, NUP represents itself as an organization that will be here and that will drive people to it, mostly those who were thinking it was going away. However, some Ugandans are not members of political organizations but supporters who can ditch someone for any opportunity.

On Friday, November 3, 2023, the National Unity Platform under the leadership of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine opened new party offices at Makerere-Kavule in Kampala where Dr. Kizza Besigye Kifefe was among the invited guests.
