The Secretary General of the National Unity Platform (NUP), David Lewis Rubongoya, has called upon all party aspirants for parliamentary seats who were not awarded party endorsement cards to remain loyal to the party.

While addressing the press at Brisk Recreation Hotel in Jinja on October 1, 2025, Rubongoya emphasized that although the party cannot prevent members from contesting as independents, it encourages them to stay engaged with the party.

“We do not have the authority to stop them from contesting as independents, but we urge them to remain loyal and continue working with us to grow the party,” Rubongoya stated.

The Secretary General acknowledged that many of the party’s aspirants were competent and committed, but only one candidate could be selected per constituency.

“All our aspirants were strong contenders, but the party could only endorse one per seat. The Electoral Management Committee (EMC) faced a difficult task in making these decisions. We congratulate those who received the party cards, and we encourage those who did not to support the selected candidates,” he added.

Rubongoya also commented on the ongoing presidential campaign in Busoga, noting that the campaign had generally been successful, despite a few incidents involving the police.

“So far, our campaign has been going well, but we urge security forces not to interfere. Our supporters are peaceful,” Rubongoya remarked.

However, he criticized the police for allegedly diverting the NUP presidential campaign team onto remote village routes, which he claimed had significantly delayed their progress.

“We strongly condemn the police’s double standards. While the NRM candidate and others are allowed to move freely, the NUP team is forced to use long, poor village roads, which wastes valuable time and causes us to arrive late at rally venues,” Rubongoya lamented.

The National Unity Platform’s presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, is scheduled to campaign in Kaliro and Luuka districts today, October 1, 2025. He will then proceed to Bugweri, Namutumba, Mayuge, Iganga, Namayingo, and Bugiri as he concludes his campaign tour of the Busoga region.
