The National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Election Management Committee (EMC) has rescheduled the vetting of parliamentary candidates to run from 15th September up to 22nd September, 2025.
The announcement was made by the NUP EMC chairperson Harriet Chemutai on 15th August, 2025 at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala, while updating the press on the ongoing vetting exercise.
“We have completed vetting local government candidates across all regions. Today, we are handling city and division mayors; tomorrow, LC5 chairpersons; and on Sunday, those who missed earlier sessions. Vetting for parliamentary candidates will now run from 15th September to 22nd September 2025,” Chemutai said.
She explained that the postponement from August to September was due to the Electoral Commission’s decision to move MP nomination dates to 15th– 16th October, 2025.
“The Electoral Commission extended the nomination dates for MPs without consulting us, so we have adjusted our schedule accordingly. Since there’s now more time, we want our MP aspirants to prepare thoroughly for our vetting before nomination,” the NUP EMC Cahirperson added.
The NUP EMC vice chairperson John Mary Ssebuwufu praised the discipline and cooperation shown by candidates so far.
“We have been vetting candidates across all regions, and the process is going well. We urge all candidates to remain calm and assure them that only the most qualified will be selected to represent the party,” Ssebuwufu said.
NUP’s vetting exercise began on 28th July, 2025, and will conclude with parliamentary vetting on September 22. The process is intended to ensure that party flag bearers meet all eligibility requirements ahead of the official nomination by the independent Electoral Commission.
