The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership in Mayuge District summoned an emergency meeting at Mayuge Resort Hotel to address internal conflicts threatening to ruin the party’s momentum ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The meeting, held on April 11, 2025, and led by District Party Chairperson Dr. Joseph Onyango, focused on addressing internal disputes and promoting unity among party members.

Dr. Onyango emphasized the importance of reconciliation among members to ensure the party operates harmoniously.

’’We have gathered here to ensure members can openly address grievances against each other and reconcile for the sake of NUP’s progress.’’ Dr. Onyango stated.

The meeting was prompted by growing accusations among members, with some alleging that their colleagues had betrayed the party’s struggle by accepting bribes from government officials.

Dr. Onyango acknowledged that such divisions were undermining the party’s efforts and foundation and needed to be addressed urgently.

In addition to mending internal rifts, Dr. Onyango called on Mayuge residents to trust NUP’s leadership in the upcoming elections.

He urged aspiring candidates to begin their campaigns early and appealed to voters to remain steadfast in their support of NUP.

“As a party, we have kick-started preparations. I encourage all those interested in running for office to begin mobilizing now,” he said.

“To our people, always cast your vote where you see the Umbrella symbol,” the district NUP party chairperson added.

The meeting concluded with a set of resolutions designed to reinforce internal cohesion and step up mobilization efforts across the district. Party leaders expressed confidence that these measures would not only resolve existing challenges but also position NUP for success in Mayuge and beyond in the upcoming elections.
