Emmanuel Dombo, the Spokesperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has described the National Unity Platform (NUP) party led by Robbert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, as a young party still in diapers.
According to Dombo, NUP is still trying to organise itself on what to do to continue its existence on the political stage in the country, adding that in the last general election, some NUP candidates were charged money for party tickets, which some didn’t secure after paying.
“I am aware that NUP is still a baby party that is still in their diapers. They are trying to organise themselves and see how best they can do their things. I also know that some members of the NUP paid a lot of money to pocket the party ticket. Others missed, though they paid,” Dombo said.
Dombo made the remarks while speaking on national television during a political talk show on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
He said that the NUP has come up with makeshift arrangements that would either create relevance for some people in the party or avenues to sell party flags in the next elections in 2026.
Explaining why opposition political parties fail to attain power from President Museveni, Charles Tebandeke revealed that most of them (political parties) consolidate themselves in their birthplace, the Central region, adding that NUP should get out of Central and reach out to other parts of Uganda to explain to people about their aspirations.
“As NUP, we have to get out of the Central and go to other parts of Uganda to explain to people our aspirations,” he said.
He, however, revealed that the ruling government doesn’t want to see that happen.
