The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leadership has fired Mathias Mpuuga as the Parliamentary Commissioner on allegations of corruption, replacing him with Francis Zaake, Member of Parliament for Mityana Municipality.

According to a statement dated March 15, 2024, NUP’s acting president, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, said the National Executive Committee (NEC) sat to consider Mpuuga’s response to the accusations and decided to replace him with Zaake.

“Although he responded to the NEC’s request to show cause why he should not be recalled from the Parliamentary Commission position, he did not provide any satisfactory explanation for engaging in the grave actions that go against the mission, and he did not make any attempt to respond to the specific accusations,” the statement reads in part.

Zedriga noted that, in light of the findings, the NEC resolved to recall Mpuuga on accounts of corruption, dishonesty, and abuse of office.

” NEC has resolved to nominate Zaake as the Parliamentary Commissioner; his nomination was informed by the fact that he was illegally removed from that role in March 2022,” the statement added.

According to Zedriga, they have done this in order to pave the way for the corrupt and questionable dealings of the Parliamentary Commission, saying that in the coming days the party will initiate relevant processes to effect this resolution.
