The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has defied the District Security Council (DSC)’s directive of asking them to postpone the event of opening up new offices in Makerere-Kavule, Kawempe division slated for Thursday, November 2, 2023, saying that they will continue with their plans.

This follows a letter from the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Yasin Ndidde dated October 31, 2023, and addressed to Lewis Rubongoya, the Secretary General (SG) of NUP, informing party of other several activities meant to take place on the same date, adding that, security will not allow the event to take place for purposes of securing the area for VIP.

Ndidde asked them to postpone the event to a later date for security purposes, something that the NUP leadership has trashed and vowed to continue with their plans.

In a phone interview with Rubongoya on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, he stressed that, there is nothing that can stop them from having their event, adding that, they will continue as prearranged.

“But we told you people that we are continuing with the event,” Rubongoya said.

The NUP party leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine on his social media accounts said that, they don’t plan to comply with the security orders.

“We’ve received this ridiculous letter from the Deputy RDC-Kawempe purporting to stop the grand opening of our new offices at Kavule on Thursday. He cites no legal basis, other than claiming that many other activities shall be happening that same day! We’ve responded telling him that we don’t intend to comply with his illegal orders,” Bobi Wine tweeted.

The NUP party offices have been at Old Kira road in Kamwokya but will shift to Makerere-Kavule in Kawempe division, a Kampala suburb. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new offices took place in July 2022, presided over by its party leader Kyagulanyi.

During the ceremony, Kyagulanyi said that acquiring land in the heart of a ghetto area in Kawempe division was a strategy for not losing their identity of standing for the interests of the common person.
