Local artiste Ali Buken, alias ‘Nubian Li,’ has declared interest in contesting for the Nakawa Mayoral position come 2026 general elections.

Nubian Li, also a close friend of NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine, said he has decided to join politics like some of his fellow musicians, who include Judith Babirye, Rachel Magola, Dr Hilderman, and Khalifa Aganaga, to venture into politics.

In a video circulating on Instagram, the ‘Abalungi Balumya’ singer disclosed his intentions while at a burial ceremony over the weekend, urging the mourners to support his political ambitions.

“Just like our President Robert Kyagulanyi said, if we have the qualifications and ability, we should stand for elective positions. I am going to contest for the mayoral seat in Nakawa. So I request that when the time comes, you support me. God bless you, and may He grant the deceased eternal peace,” he said.

Nubian Li disclosed that he has been inspired by Bobi Wine to run for office.

Speaking at Nubian Li’s wedding in 2021, Bobi Wine narrated that if it were not for Nubian Li’s encouragement, he would not have contested in the 2017 Kyadondo East MP by-election, which he won with a landslide victory.

He further stated that it was Nubian Li who encouraged him to take the bold step of contesting for the presidency in 2021.

Nubian Li, who has passively experienced the bittersweet consequences of active politics from friend Kyagulanyi, will have his leadership skills put to the test during this period.
