A total of 948 million Uganda shillings that were collected during the seven hills run organized by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) on July 2nd, 2023, at Kololo ceremonial grounds will be used to support girl child education and some selected interventions being undertaken in public schools across the country.

The 21-kilometer run covered all seven hills of Kampala, the capital city, and attracted more than 8,000 people.

Patrick Ayota, the NSSF acting Managing Director, said in order for a school to benefit from the fund, it must have a good governance structure with an active PTA, be in a good relationship with the district, and be non-partisan.

“The idea is that we look out for a school in each of the regions and see what we can do with it. The selection will go through a properly described procedure, and at least one school will be picked from any of the regions in the country; however, he said they are targeting public or government-aided schools,” said Ayota.

He adds that for this cause, they are focusing on innovation, sanitation, and digital education within these schools for better public schools and a brighter future.

“Various companies and organizations financially enabled the Run. Individual participants paid a fee of 20,000 shillings each to support the cause,” he said.

Ayota said that the numbers that turned up were not expected and that he had hoped to mobilize one billion shillings.
