The Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the Central Region, Hon Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi, has called on Ugandan youth to uphold the party’s core principles as a path to personal and national prosperity.

Addressing over 200 youth undergoing a 12-day ideological retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, Hon Kiwanda emphasized the importance of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy as the foundational pillars of the NRM.

“These four principles are not just ideals; they are a roadmap to prosperity. If embraced and lived, they have the power to transform individuals, families, and the nation,” Kiwanda said.

According to him, progress is better achieved through the ideology of interest over identity therefore young people should resist divisive narratives based on tribe or religion.

“Our politics should not be about identity. It must be about common interests. That is what unites Ugandans across different backgrounds,” he said.

The former State Minister for Tourism cautioned against tribalism and religious extremism, calling such tendencies a threat to national unity and development.

Kiwanda urged youth to see government programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga as seeds for wealth creation, not mere handouts.

“Use what the government gives you wisely. Don’t consume it, plant it. Invest in your future,” he said.

He also commended the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, under the Office of the President, for organizing the retreat especially Commissioner Hellen Seku for mobilizing young people and reviving their engagement with NRM values.

“Many youth were misled and drifted from the party due to lies. Now, they’re coming back, and this kind of engagement must continue in every village and sub-county,” Kiwanda noted.

Andrew Solomon Musindi, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Mubende, expressed optimism that the training would steer young people toward constructive civic engagement.

“The challenge has been misinformation and ignorance. This retreat offers hope and clarity. It will empower our youth to become true agents of change,” Musindi said.

Participants at the retreat were drawn from the districts of Kampala, Kassanda, Mubende, and Mityana. The training is part of a broader national effort to strengthen ideological awareness among Uganda’s youth.

The retreat is scheduled to close on June 18, 2025, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to officiate as the chief guest.
