The National Resistance Movement party candidate, Mugisha Uthuman Mubarak, has been declared the winner of the Hoima District LCV by-election.
At 11:15 p.m., Kasande Merab, the Hoima district returning officer, declared the results that put Uthuman as the winner of the by-election in which five candidates participated.
According to the declaration form signed by the Hoima Returning Officer, Uthuman polled 18,353 votes, Vincent Muhumuza (an independent candidate) collected 12020 votes, and Moses Agua (of the National Unity Platform Party) got 3972 votes.
Other candidates, including Lennox Mugume (independent), tallied 179 votes, and Patrick Musinguzi, the FDC Party candidate, got 271 votes, way below the invalid votes cast totalling 724.
Paul Bukenya, the Electoral Commission spokesperson, said the total votes cast were 34795 and described the election as peaceful with minor incidents.
