The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced plans to hold its 4th National Conference from 27th to 28th August 2025 at the Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

The event will see party delegates formally endorse their presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections and elect new members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

According to an official notice issued by the party, the event will be held under the theme, “Building a Shared Prosperity – Investing in Uganda’s Future,” which reflects the party’s focus on development and unity as it prepares for the next election cycle.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who has led Uganda for nearly four decades, will deliver the keynote address in his capacity as NRM National Chairperson. The conference will also feature a report from the Secretary General and elections for key party leadership roles.

Although the formal election of the flag bearer is on the agenda, President Museveni’s candidacy was effectively confirmed earlier on 5th July 2025, when he was nominated as the sole candidate to represent the ruling party in next year’s presidential election.

The August conference will therefore act as a platform to officially ratify this decision before the wider party membership.

Delegates will also elect CEC members, who play a vital role in steering the party between conferences. These include regional vice chairpersons representing Uganda’s six regions, as well as positions such as Secretary General, Treasurer, and heads of special interest groups within the party.

“Campaigns by nominees and subsequent elections will take place during the conference,” the statement read.

The conference is expected to conclude with an address from the endorsed presidential candidate, followed by national anthems and formal closing.
