Felix Okot, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dokolo South on the National Resistance Movement ticket, has criticized Twaha Kagabo of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party for meeting President Museveni at State House Entebbe during the NRM caucus last week.

Okot described the meeting as a betrayal and warned other opposition members of Parliament from crisscrossing to the NRM, calling it an unhealthy practice for multiparty democracy.

“I do not like betrayers; you betray your own system; you have to be straight because you are in a multiparty dispensation. We are here to save the nation; not everyone should come to government, so other parties should exist collectively,” Okot said.

According to Kagabo, he didn’t go to Entebbe State House to meet the NRM but to meet the President during the NRM caucus meeting.

“Those who are wondering whether I belong politically and my allegiance to the NUP party should pray for wisdom from God to enable them to stop mixing up issues of meeting the President and party politics,” Kagabo said.

However, Jackson Atiima, the Arua Central Member of Parliament on the NRM ticket, said that if Kagabo is joining NRM from NUP, then NUP is phasing out.

“NUP has lost popularity; it speaks volumes that NRM is gaining momentum, so I encourage them to come because we have a big bus that welcomes everyone,” he said.

He applauded the Chairman of the NRM for having an open-day policy for those transferring from other parties, adding that they are warmly welcome to the NRM.

Kagabo interfaced with journalists on February 6, 2024, at Parliament, who had sought out to understand what he had discussed with President Museveni during his visit to the State House last week.
