The National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Mary Akol has been declared the winner of Bukedea District LCV Chairperson in the concluded Bukedea by-election that were conducted on Thursday, June 14, 2023.
In a statement by the Returning Officer of Bukedea District, Joel Mugyenyi Mugerwa, Akol has been declared the winner with 79,692 votes against her closest rival Tychicus Lokwiisk Ebukalin of Independent who garnered 4,941 votes, while FDC candidate Sam Oita Odeke came third with 2343 votes.
“I Mugenyi Joel M, being the Retuning Officer for Bukedea Electoral District having added up the number of votes cast as recorded on each declaration of results form in accordance with the Local Governments Act Cap 243, I declare Akol Mary, who obtained the largest number votes,” the statement read.
According to the Electoral Commission, 86976 votes were valid, 894 were rejected because the ballot papers were invalid, 161 ballot papers were spoiled and 87870 ballot papers were counted all together.
Akol Mary will replace, Moses Olemukan, who died in December last year. It should also be known that Akol is the daughter of the late Olemukan.
