The government under the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has emphasized that nobody should pay money in order to be counted during the 2024 national population and housing census.

The 2024 census under the theme ‘It matters to be counted’ will run from May 10 to 19, where UBOS staff (enumerators) will move door-to-door to capture data from residents of households.

Dr. Chris Mukiza, the Census Commissioner, said all the census officials, including supervisors and enumerators, will be fully facilitated; therefore, nobody should be asked for more.

“Here is a breakdown of facilitation for enumerators and the various supervisors. Ugx50, 000 daily for enumerators, whereas supervisors will earn Ugx60,000 only,” Dr. Mukiza said.

He also noted that allowances paid to enumerators will not be taxed because this is a facilitation for the census.

According to Mukiza, every enumerator has been given a tablet, which they have interacted with.

“There is no place that we will not reach, including prisons or barracks. All will be enumerated. Students at universities will be enumerated at their halls of residence using the institutional questionnaire, which also applies to health facilities, among others,” Mukiza added.

The 2024 National Population and Housing Census is being conducted in accordance with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics Act, 1998.
