The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has issued a strong warning to the public against engaging with fraudsters and fake online platforms claiming to offer “express” National ID services.
Speaking to journalists during the weekly security briefing at Naguru Police Headquarters, on November 10th 2025, the Registrar at NIRA, Claire Olama, explained that the authority has observed an alarming increase in fraudulent websites and individuals impersonating NIRA officials.
Olama cited ugfinder.com as a prime example of the vague websites that has misled citizens and collected money under the guise of providing expedited ID services.
“NIRA has contacted the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), which is taking steps to block the website, though it may still be accessible to users employing VPNs,” she stated.
Olama clarified that while a fee of Shs 300,000 has been gazetted for an official express National ID service however the service has not yet been rolled out.
The Registrar urged citizens to protect their personal data and to rely solely on verified NIRA communication channels, including the official website and social media handles.
