Cabinet has approved a list of new resolutions in a bid to curb the current road accidents which have continued to claim the lives of people across the country.
This was resolved during a cabinet meeting held at State House Entebbe on Monday, July 17, 2023.
According to Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, government is concerned about the increased road traffic accidents.
Baryomunsi said that cabinet also observed that road traffic crashes are mainly caused by human factors.
“We observed that road traffic crashes are mainly caused by human factors characterized by drinking and driving, over speeding, distracted driving, fatigue and other forms of reckless behaviors such as wrongful overtaking, road rage, impatience, frequent lane change, abandoned vehicle on carriage way, among others,” Baryomunsi said.
He said that the new measures approved by the cabinet include stepping up enforcement by the Uganda police, effectively regulating and managing road transport services.
Others are increased road safety sensitization and awareness, effective coordination of all road safety efforts and strengthening of the traffic and road safety legislation.
However, cabinet further observed that boda-bodas have continuously killed more people than other vehicle categories.
