The National Defence College of Uganda (NDC-U) has re-echoed the mechanization of agriculture as a means of boosting food in Uganda, for both local consumption and export.

The Commandant of NDC, Maj. Gen. Francis Okello, made the remarks at Musubi Avocado Farm in Mayuge District, where he led a team of course participants from the college on a domestic study tour.

Okello said that the president has on a number of occasions encouraged Ugandans to prioritize technology in the agricultural sector since it is the backbone of Uganda.

“The President and Commander-in-Chief, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has always emphasized the mechanization of agriculture for better yields and increased production for both consumption and commercial purposes as opposed to subsistence farming. It’s therefore incumbent upon us as leaders to come up with a better strategy to ensure this comes to reality,” Okello stated.

He said that Musubi Farm was chosen as a case study to enable course participants to have an appreciation of reality, conduct research, and come up with a better strategy for implementation.

The College is a national security and strategic studies training and educational institution in Uganda. The plans to establish the facility started in 2013, and in September 2018, a committee to spearhead the establishment of the defense college  was formed. The college was officially established by President Museveni on November 14, 2021, as a premier and inter-services government learning institution under the Defense Ministry.
