The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is set to carry out mass enrollment and renewal of Identification cards in August 2023.

This was revealed on Monday, June 19th, during the weekly security briefing held at Naguru police headquarters in Kampala by Osborn Mushabe, the Spokesperson of NIRA.

Mushabe said NIRA will be renewing IDs for all citizens whose IDs are about to expire.

According to him, the mass enrollment will be conducted at the parish level in a move to bring services closer to people.

Mushabe said those who will be registering for the first time will be required to present a photocopy of their parents’ national identification card so that they can cross-check.

He cautioned that the services would be offered free of charge by the government of Uganda and urged everyone not to pay.

In 2014 and 2015, there was a mass enrollment, and those IDs are about to expire.
