Youths in Nansana Municipality, under the newly formed pressure group Nansana Municipality Patriotic Movement, have pledged to mobilize support for President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
The group was officially launched on June 26, 2025, at Nkima Gardens in Nansana Municipality.
The event was led by Sheikh Kigozi Elias, the Wakiso District Kadhi, who said the primary goal of the group is to rally support for President Museveni and the NRM while promoting patriotism across the country.
“We are committed to mobilizing the youth in Nansana Municipality to support President Museveni and all NRM candidates in the coming elections. He also emphasized the importance of fostering national unity and patriotism among Ugandans,” Kigozi said.
“The key message is to make people love their country, Uganda, and avoid internal divisions and hatred. We need to come together as one and know that we only have one country,” Kigozi added.
The group’s media secretary , Zziwa Hamuza Kyeyune, revealed that the movement currently has over 250 members and continues to grow.
“We are from the ghetto, and supporting NRM is not a crime. In the upcoming elections, we will coordinate all efforts to mobilize support for President Museveni and all NRM candidates in Nansana,” Hamuza said.
Kalungi Kasule, the chairman of NRM in Nansana Division, stated that the formation of the movement is a strategic effort to reclaim NRM’s dominance in the municipality, which has seen significant gains by the National Unity Platform (NUP) in recent years.
“Wakiso District was outnumbered by NUP in leadership, and we intend to restore NRM’s position, starting with Nansana Municipality. Out of 83 councillors, only 7 are from NRM, and 3 are independents; the rest are from NUP. It’s challenging, but we are determined to turn the tide,” Kasule said.
With the 2026 general elections fast approaching, youth groups across Buganda are playing an increasingly vocal role in supporting political parties. Political leaders have stressed the importance of engaging these groups, given their significant share of the electorate.
