The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Ssentamu Nankabirwa, has called for teamwork to maximize the potential of Uganda’s resources, drive economic growth, and create a country in which all citizens benefit from collective prosperity.

Nankabirwa made the remarks during the handover ceremony of the Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, in charge of minerals, at Amber House on Thursday, March 28, 2024.

In her speech, Nankabirwa commended the outgoing Minister, Dr. Peter Teko Lokeris, for his extraordinary service to the ministry and country.

She welcomed the incoming Minister, Phiona Nyamutoro, and reminded her that her appointment speaks volumes about her abilities.

“I am confident you will bring a fresh perspective because you represent the energy and aspirations of Uganda’s youth. Your academic achievements, advocacy for gender equality, and focus on education and sports in Parliament demonstrate your commitment to building a better future for all Ugandans,” Nankabirwa noted.

She explained the potential Uganda’s mineral resources have to drive economic growth and help communities achieve socio-economic development.

“As you step into this critical role, you inherit a sector vast with opportunities. Uganda’s mineral resources hold the potential to drive economic growth and uplift communities into socio-economic development,” she stated.

Nyamutoro pledged to work tirelessly to advance the nation’s interests.

“I pledge to work tirelessly to advance the interests of our nation and ensure that our mineral wealth benefits all Ugandans, especially those in marginalized communities,” Nyamutoro noted.

She committed to building on Dr. Lokeris legacy and propelling the sector to new heights.

Nyamutoro urged Nankabirwa to pursue progress and prosperity while adhering to the principles of integrity, transparency, and inclusivity.

“With your support and collaboration, I am confident that we can achieve our shared vision of a thriving Uganda where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive,” Nyamutoro said.

On March 21, 2024, President Museveni appointed Nyamutoro Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development in charge of minerals.
