The Kira Municipality legislator, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, has hit back at the FDC party faction loyal to Nathan Nandala Mafabi, saying he lacks the legal mandate to fire him from being the party whip in Parliament.

In reaction to the news of his dismissal by the FDC party secretary general, Mafabi, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Ssemujju Nganda argued that he could be dropped by the FDC National Executive Committee that appointed him but not Man.

“Amuriat and Nandala have no right to sack me like they’re purporting because they did not appoint me,” said MP Ssemujju.

He claimed his purported dismissal could have been influenced by the regime, a claim he failed to substantiate.

Ssemujju, however, noted that there is nothing special about being the party whip in parliament and that if they want it so much, he will gladly hand it over to them.

“My main responsibility is to represent the people within Kira municipality, so the Party Whip is not a responsibility to cry for,” he said.

On Tuesday, Nandala’s faction informed the Speaker of Parliament, Anet Anita Among, about the decision to fire MP Ssemujju and subsequently replaced him with MP Yusuf Nsibambi of Mawokota South County in Mpigi district.

MP Nsibambi later told journalists about his readiness to use the new position to calm the current storm in FDC party.

“I have accepted this new responsibility and it’s not an easy position as you may know, given the current circumstances in the party. But we have the duty and responsibility to galvanize our party,” said Nsibambi said on Tuesday.
