Police in Nakasongola district have arrested a woman for allegedly torturing her two biological children.

The suspect has been identified as Justine Namuwonge, 27, a resident of Kyabutaika, Kakooge town council in Nakasongola District.

It’s alleged that Namuwonge tortured her two children, identified as Fatuma Nagenda, 6 years old, and Hajara Nasuuna, and aged four years, both pupils of Kamukamu Nursey School in Kakooge, Nakasongola district.

ASP Sam Twiineamazina, the police spokesperson for the Savannah region, said police were informed on October 23, 2023, by one of the teachers.

“The findings reveal that on October 23, 2023, at around 3:00 pm, the suspect, who is a biological mother to the victims, allegedly lit a charcoal stove and inflicted burns on her children’s hands,” stated Twiineamazina.

According to Twiineamazina, the suspect accused the victims of stealing food and intentionally kept them at home without seeking medical attention as punishment after beating them.

The victims have since been admitted to Kakooge Health Centre III for treatment, while the suspect remains in detention at Kakooge police station.

The police strongly condemned the horrific acts of torture and violence against children.
