Police in Naksaongola are investigating circumstances under which two people have been killed on the spot in a hit-and-run accident by a Taxi drone.

The incident, which happened on September 18, 2024, in Kakondi village in Nakasongola district, was caused by a Taxi drone that was coming from Gulu, heading to Kampala. It killed two people on the spot and left another person in a very critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Semwanga and a 15-year-old girl called Shadia; however, the survivor has been identified as Rehema.

According to one eyewitness identified as Peter Muzanganda, Semwanga was coming from his house, where he had taken cement for construction on a boda boda; however, as he was crossing the road, he was hit by the Taxi drone registration number UBL 232G, and he died on the spot.

Muzanganda added that the drone veered off the road and knocked on Shadia and Rehema, who were coming from the garden; however, Shadia died on the spot, but Rehema survived with broken arms and bones and was taken to Nakasongola hospital in a critical condition.

’’The driver of the Taxi drone lost control of his vehicle, which killed two people on the spot, and he ran away after committing this crime,” Muzanganda stated.

Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah regional police spokesperson, confirmed this incident and revealed that investigations are underway to ascertain what caused the accident and to arrest the driver of the Taxi drone who is on the run.

He further called upon motorists to be respectful and careful on the road because they are not the only road users.

Recent statistics reveal a concerning rise in road accidents within Nakasongola district. On September 10, 2024, a bus traveling from Kampala to Gulu in Nakasongola lost control when it reached a sharp bend; it overturned and caused two deaths and left several others wounded.
