The Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has assured Ugandans that the Muslim community are not terrorists like many people have claimed before.

According to the General, to label the Muslim community as terrorists is very unjust. He named one of the famous terrorists and emphasized that they were never Muslim.

“Muslims are not terrorists. Was Kony a Muslim? Is there any person in Uganda who has killed people like Kony? Was Lakwena a Muslim? Lakwena was a Catholic, and so was Kony,” Otafiire said.

Gen. Kahinda Otafiire made the remarks as he joined hundreds of Muslims at Nakivubo Blue primary school playground in Kampala for the Eid al-Adha prayers on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

He urged Ugandans to desist from mixing issues up because Islam is not a terrorist hub, citing that every religion is capable of harboring terrorists and criminals.

The minister also told the Muslim community that government is not selective when it comes to arresting suspects, especially in terrorism-related cases.

“Therefore, government will continue to arrest criminals regardless of their religious beliefs,” Otafiire added.
