David Lutalo a popular Ugandan musician has said that fellow musicians are joining politics because of the little pay they get from their content, adding that, he has no problem with his fellow artists who join the lucrative profession since they are looking to better their lives.

The Kwasa Singer said this during a phone interview with Nexus Media, on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, following media allegations that he is eyeing a certain political seat in Nakaseke, come 2026 general elections.

He trashed these rumors which he said hold no water, and stressing that at this point in time, he cannot mix his music career with politics.

“At the moment, anything concerning politics, I don’t get involved in it. I don’t want to mix music with politics. The reason why artists are rushing to join politics is simply because of the nonfunctioning copyright law. If the copyright law is enforced and artists start earning good money from their craft, there will be no reason for them to dessert their work for politics,” Lutalo said.

Musicians like Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine, Kiyaga Hillary Innocent aka Dr. Hilderman, Judith Babirye, Geoffrey Lutaya, Rachel Magola and Joseph Mayanja aka Dr. Jose Chameleon who contested for the Kampala Lord Mayorship seat in 2021 which he lost.
