President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially launched the Kampala phase of his Parish Development Model (PDM) zonal tour, bringing to a close his months-long national campaign aimed at accelerating Uganda’s transition to a fully monetized, enterprise-driven economy.

The tour began with the commissioning of the newly constructed Busega Central Market in Lubaga Division.

The facility is expected to offer thousands of vendors a modern and structured environment for trade, aligning with the President’s vision for organized urban economies that support grassroots wealth creation.

Speaking at the event, President Museveni praised the development as a significant step in improving working conditions for traders.

“Maama Janet and I were happy to launch the Busega Market this afternoon. This new facility gives traders a safe, clean, and organized space to operate, which is far better than selling on the roadside, where they face losses, especially during bad weather,” he said.

He emphasized that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) remains focused on empowering citizens through productivity and engagement in the economy.

“The message of the NRM is clear: we must work to create wealth. Whether you are an owner or a worker, everyone should be engaged. Idleness is not acceptable,” Museveni stated.

The President commended the entrepreneurial activity in Busega especially the motivation shown by the people of Busega who were focusing on services such as trading, vending, and small shops.

Uganda’s capital and economic engine, Kampala, has been earmarked as a key frontier in the national effort to expand participation in the money economy.

A crowd of residents hold yellow posters in excitement upon the Presidents visit.

The week-long tour will include engagements with market vendors, city leaders, SACCOs, youth and women’s groups, and the media. It will culminate in a public rally at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

President Museveni’s Kampala outreach emphasizes wealth creation through urban agriculture, micro-enterprise, market development, and targeted financial support under the PDM.

The strategy aims to address urban unemployment and poverty through enterprise-led solutions and mindset change.
