President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed leaders in the Greater Mpigi sub-region to intensify efforts in eradicating poverty and rooting out corruption, emphasizing that transformation must begin at the household level.

While addressing a leaders’ meeting at Gombe Secondary School in Butambala District on Tuesday, the President challenged leaders to adopt a results-based approach to wealth creation.

“Poverty is personal and must be fought individually. You can have a tarmacked road, but if you sit idle beside it, you’ll remain poor,” Museveni said.

The meeting brought together leaders from Mpigi, Butambala, and Gomba districts, as part of the President’s three-day wealth creation and PDM performance assessment tour.

Museveni urged the leaders to work closely with communities to promote mindset change and adoption of the Four-Acre Model, which encourages households to engage in productive, diversified farming on limited land with the help of Parish Development Model (PDM) funding.

“I have directed you to go parish by parish and verify how many households have genuinely escaped poverty. We must stop operating on assumptions,” the President said.

He emphasized that real development can only be measured through tangible results, such as improved household incomes and productivity.

The President also cautioned against land fragmentation, advising families to maintain collective ownership of land and share proceeds instead of subdividing property, which he said limits economic potential.

Museveni directed security agencies, including the Internal Security Organization (ISO), to investigate alleged cases of job racketeering in districts under the Greater Mpigi sub-region.

“No Ugandan should pay or lobby for a government job. Let us clean up the systems and ensure merit-based recruitment,” he added.

Museveni is expected to address a public rally in Mpigi on Wednesday, June 18, focusing on wealth creation and local success stories under PDM.

He will then embark on another three-day tour of the Greater Mukono sub-region, covering Mukono, Kayunga, Buikwe, and Buvuma districts, starting Thursday, June 19, 2025, to assess the impact of government economic programs.
