President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has prescribed dialogue as the only and fastest way to end the current conflict in Khartoum, Sudan.

While meeting a group of civil society and political leaders from Sudan on July 3rd, 2023, at State House Entebbe, President Museveni emphasized that unity and reconciliation must be prioritized by the two factions.

“A group of civil society and political leaders from the Republic of the Sudan called on me at State House Entebbe to discuss possible interventions to de-escalate ongoing damage to the country. I have noted their suggestions to utilize various AU and IGAD mechanisms,” said the President.

President Museveni advised the actors to use all the possible means to ensure that the crisis in Sudan is resolved through mediation.

In May 2023, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) convened the third sitting of the Expanded Mechanism for the Resolution of the Conflict in Sudan in Ethiopia.

An armed conflict between rival factions of the military government of Sudan began on April 15, 2023, when clashes broke out in cities, with the fighting concentrated around the capital city of Khartoum and the Darfur region.
