President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has sent a deeply emotional message to the Vatican following the death of Pope Francis, calling him an extraordinary spiritual leader and a true man of God.
In a letter to Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Museveni poured his heart out, expressing sorrow on behalf of the entire Ugandan nation.
“It is with profound sadness that I have received the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the entire Catholic Church worldwide,” Museveni writes.
The beloved Pope passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at 88 years old, in his Vatican residence. His passing has sent shockwaves through the global faith community.
Museveni hailed the late Pontiff as a bold voice for peace, justice, and compassion, adding that the Pope’s mission revitalized the Church in a world turning cold and secular.
President Museveni said the late Pope walked in the very footsteps of Jesus.
Referencing the parable of the Good Samaritan, President said Pope Francis was always ready to unite all faiths including Muslim, Orthodox, and more.
“His readiness and enthusiasm meant that he was a religious leader who was truly in the Kisinde (track) of Jesus as Jesus taught us in the parable of the Good Samaritan in the book of Luke 10:29-37. His legacy of love, unity, and service to humanity will endure for generations to come,” Museveni’s condolences read in part.
Pope Francis held a special place in Ugandan hearts, especially after his historic 2015 visit, where he honored the Uganda Martyrs in a powerful moment that still echoes in the nation’s memory.
“His legacy of love, unity, and service to humanity will endure for generations to come,” Museveni vowed.
As candles flicker and prayers rise across Uganda, Catholics and non-Catholics alike are remembering the Pope as more than a religious figure but a global icon of love, humility, and unwavering faith.
