President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has thanked security forces for the job well done in protecting revelers at the recently concluded Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja District.

In a statement dated November 15, 2023, he said that the intelligence rendered by the security forces displayed their commitment to protecting what he termed “suspected sinners”.

“I want to congratulate the security forces, that is, the UPDF, the Uganda Police, and the intelligence services, for successfully protecting the suspected sinners of Nyege Nyege in Jinja,” Museveni said.

“This shows you the strength of the Ugandan security system to be able to guard such a long-per-announced massive public function amid threats of terrorism,” Museveni added.

Additionally, Museveni confirmed that Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in Congo deployed a couple of infiltrators to stop the function.

The President said that he also heard that the Americans and British sent out what they call advisories to their citizens not to come to Uganda, terming them as mistake-makers.

He added that if the situation was that bad, the government would be the one to advise people not to come to Uganda instead of the British and the Americans.

“We know what we are doing, and even if a mistake occurs, we know how to handle it. These advisories by some of these actors are another form of interference in our internal affairs by these elements,” Museveni said.

The Nyege Nyege festival showcased a diverse global audience, regardless of travel advisories issued by the US and UK cautioning against potential terrorist threats. The highly anticipated annual gathering took place at the picturesque source of the Nile, in Jinja District.
