The President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has hailed the Busoga region for its support during the liberation struggle.

While speaking at the 38th NRM Liberation Anniversary celebrations at St. Johns Senior Secondary School Wakitaka playgrounds in Jinja City on January 26, 2024, the president acknowledged different groups in the Busoga region for their contribution to the liberation struggle.

‘I would like to thank the people of Busoga because they took part in the struggle that brought this government into power. In 1972, we had a group in Busesa and another group in Kiterera Forest. In the second phase, we had people like Kivejinja, and they had been supporting us all the time. You have been supporting NRM, so I am therefore very happy that we are having these celebrations here,” Museveni said.

The president also urged the people of Busoga to listen to the NRM ideology.

The celebrations were attended by diplomats, religious leaders, cultural leaders, cabinet ministers, ministers of state, several members of parliament, members of civil society, the media, and the general public.

They were also graced by band performances by the Uganda prison brass band and the Uganda police band, who entertained guests with great performances.

The NRM liberation day is celebrated every January 26, 2024, to remember the day the NRA/NRM government took over power, and this year’s theme was “Building a country we all cherish.”
