President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday 16th April, 2025 issued a directive to leaders from the greater Mubende sub region leaders to prioritize wealth at the homestead or risk leaving local people swimming in poverty.

Speaking passionately at Mirembe Maria Catholic Parish in Kassanda District during the leaders meeting, Museveni tore into what he described as “a failure of leadership and planning”, urging local officials to rally citizens into wealth creation through modern, strategic farming.

“Stop the obsession with tarmac roads only, real transformation starts with wealth in every home,” he thundered, pointing to the success stories of smallholder farmers elsewhere in the country.

The President called on leaders to aggressively mobilize citizens to adopt the four-acre farming model, a proven strategy he says can lift families out of poverty faster than waiting for government handouts and tarmac roads.

Regarding the appalling state of roads in the region, Museveni visibly irritated by complaints , unleashed a scathing attack on the Ministry of Works and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), blaming them for letting roads rot under their watch.

“Why do you wait until roads are completely destroyed to act? This is not a transition problem, it’s negligence!” Museveni fumed, his voice rising.

The president’s remarks were triggered by repeated complaints about the Myanzi-Kassanda-Kiboga road, which locals say is crippling the region’s economy.

He ordered immediate repairs and preventive maintenance, warning that poor infrastructure undermines national progress.

“Let’s stop the excuses. Let’s get to work!” Museveni concluded, leaving no doubt that his patience is wearing thin.

The President is currently on a tour across the five districts of Greater Mubende, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Mityana, Mubende, and Kassanda to assess the rollout of the Parish Development Model (PDM), a flagship wealth creation initiative.

Mubende sub region leaders also endorsed President Museveni as the NRM sole candidate in 2026, a section which he welcomed and said it will be presented to the Central Executive Committee and National delegates conference.
