The president of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the chairman of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit has called upon member states to exercise considerable influence, particularly at the United Nations, for an effective transformative process for a better common future.
President Museveni said that the grouping of countries accounts for 4.46 billion people in the world, and they should concentrate on prosperity through the advancement of science and technology, trade and dealing with human problems like the environment, crime, and terrorism.
“Our study of the political economy of creation and society, has discovered that the basic driver of changes in society is the development of science and technology.” Museveni added.
He said that societies that move forward with their levels of science and technology lay the basis for positive social change and should be encouraged by the progressive forces in the world.
“This encouragement should be irrespective of the social systems of the concerned societies,” he highlighted.
In his closing remarks, President Museveni recommended that in the negotiations for the Pact of the Future, NAM should clearly define priorities that favor developing countries by maintaining unity, solidarity, and collective coordination.
Leaders from approximately 119 countries across the world have converged in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, for the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which kicked off on Monday, January 15, 2023.
