President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called for global dialogue in a bid to promote trade arising from stability.

He made the appeal while opening the third Uganda-European Union Business Forum at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, under the theme of “Boosting Trade and Investments” and the sub-theme of “What can Uganda gain from Global Gateway?

The President tasked ambassadors from European Union countries and other diplomats to engage their countries in business-related dialogue.

“Lack of dialogue on doing business is one of the biggest problems. I urge EU ambassadors here to help us engage in serious dialogue because we are ready and we are not wasting or missing opportunities,” President Museveni said.

He said political actors should be encouraged to promote global affluence so as to expand opportunities for everyone.

“As business people, encourage political actors to promote global affluence that boosts business for everyone in the world. Imagine if everyone on the globe had a GDP per capita of $20,000; what would be the size of the global economy? We should work together for global affluence so that everyone benefits. We can’t have parts of the world where people are poor because it limits possibilities,” he said.

Myriam Ferran, the EU Director-General for International Partnerships, confirmed their commitment to supporting the government of Uganda in various livelihood enhancing programmes.

She also announced that the European Union Delegation, in collaboration with the Belgian Embassy, has established a matching grant facility of Ugx47 billion to support Ugandan small and medium enterprises in the agribusiness sector.

The Uganda-EU Business Forum (UEUBF) is organized by the EU together with its Member States in partnership with the government of Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) under the Sustainable Business for Uganda (SB4U) Team Europe Initiative.

This is one of the largest business meetings in Uganda, designed to mobilise investments in Uganda and strengthen Ugandan exports, contributing to the partnership between Uganda and the EU.
