President Museveni has expressed concern about the manner in which head teachers of government-aided schools have sabotaged the free education scheme by continuously charging learners extra fees.

Museveni was delivering a lecture of opportunity to over 91 trainees (science professionals) who had completed their two-month initial training at Sera Kasenyi Training School on Wednesday, October 25th, at State House Entebbe.

“The question is, how can I transform myself from a traditional person to a modern person? We are saying that you can do it in two ways, and one way is education. That is why we introduced free education. I wanted you to have free education, but your people have been opposing it down there. The head teachers introduced charges in schools. They block free education, and that is why it’s not implemented fully,” said President Museveni.

According to President Museveni, if free education was fully implemented, all the children would be going to school, adding that some heads of schools think that they should fetch money from the locals.

He said that as young scientists, they should unite with the NRM and fight all those people who are blocking the free education of children.

President Museveni added that scientists are free to undergo further training to become officer cadets, after which they will be deployed in many areas of science to serve the country.

A few months ago, President Museveni ordered all government schools not to levy additional charges on learners.
