Mulago National Referral Hospital has launched a two-week spine surgical camp at its Upper Mulago Spine Ward, in partnership with Health Volunteers Overseas, to provide free, advanced surgeries for patients suffering from severe back pain, limb, and joint problems.
The camp, which started on Monday, 26th January, 2026, will run until February 7th, 2026, prioritizing patients with debilitating spinal conditions that significantly disrupt daily life.
Mulago Hospital announced on its official X account that it is conducting high-level spine surgeries free of charge.
“We are offering advanced spine surgeries completely free of charge, ensuring patients in need have access to top-quality care,” the hospital stated.
Additionally, international specialists from Health Volunteers Overseas, a nonprofit supporting undeserved regions, are carrying out advanced procedures such as spinal decompressions, fusions, and joint repairs.
These interventions target a rising number of cases of degenerative disc disease, spinal injuries, and arthritis, which have increasingly strained Mulago’s spine ward.
The camp is designed to clear surgical backlogs, prevent chronic disability, and restore mobility, enabling patients to resume work, support their families, and contribute to their communities.
In addition, the collaboration enhances Uganda’s public health system by building local surgical capacity through hands-on training and shared expertise with international specialists.
Previous surgical camps at Mulago have delivered hundreds of operations, improving long-term access to specialized care and providing patients with free assessments, treatments, and hope for self-reliance.
Community members facing spine-related health issues are encouraged to visit the Upper Mulago Spine Ward immediately to benefit from this opportunity.
Through this collaborative effort, Mulago Hospital and Health Volunteers Overseas are not only addressing urgent surgical needs but also empowering patients to regain their health, return to daily life, and contribute actively to their communities.
