The alumnus of the Metropolitan International University (MIU) have requested the Parliament Protocol and the university management to consider taking the body of late Minister Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi to the MIU main campus on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, for a last viewing and honor her contribution to the university as a founding member.

Francis Adepo, the former MIU Guild president (2019-2020) and also the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Youth Chairman, said this while delivering his eulogy on Monday, September 9, 2024.

He said that it would provide an opportunity for the university community to pay their respects, celebrate her life, and acknowledge her immense contributions to the institution as one of the founding members.

“We mourn the loss of a true champion of education, a leader who selflessly served our institution, and a mentor who inspired us to become better versions of ourselves. May her passing not be in vain, but a catalyst for us to continue pursuing our dreams, just as she encouraged us to do,” Adepo said.

According to Adepo, the late Mateke played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s vision, mission, and values, and her tireless efforts helped the students access quality education.

“As one of the founding members of Metropolitan International University, Hon. Mateke played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s vision, mission, and values. Her tireless efforts helped establish a platform for students to access quality education, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Her impressive career, spanning academia, politics, and public service, is a shining example of dedication, perseverance, determination, passion, and true nationalism,” Adepo said.

Adepo acknowledged that Mateke’s remarkable leadership and expertise in governance, policymaking, political scores, and community engagement have been instrumental in shaping his current leadership endeavors.

Additionally, he noted that Mateke demonstrated exceptional leadership, mentorship, and a willingness to engage with diverse perspectives, providing invaluable guidance, support, and resources that enabled his cabinet to effectively serve the students’ body and broader community.

“Her dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging critical thinking was exemplary, having a profound impact on our personal and professional growth,” he added.

Mateke passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, after suffering a heart attack and rushed to Mengo Hospital. She served as the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament and the State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs.
