The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, has urged Muslim youth to actively embrace and fully engage in government-led programs within their communities to aid in poverty alleviation and promote development.
Mubajje said that the youth should exploit every fortunate opportunity availed by the government, citing the latest initiative of the Parish Development Model (PDM), which was commissioned by His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni and aimed at poverty alleviation across all districts in Busoga.
“You are fortunate to have a president who visits your communities, teaches you practical skills, and provides startup capital,” Mubajje said.
“This enables you to become self-reliant, create employment opportunities for yourselves, and contribute to national development,” he added.
Mubajje made these remarks on Thursday, February 13, 2025, while hosting a delegation from the Budaka Muslim District Da’wah & Developmental Association, led by its chairperson, Nsenye Hassan, at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters.
However, he advised them against engaging in politics that opposes the government, as it is a waste of time, offering no benefits.
According to him, this kind of choices pose a great danger especially to the idle and unproductive youth who end up spending their days on the streets protesting and insulting the President and government officials.
In response, Mubajje suggested focusing on more constructive activities that could lead to personal and professional growth and support President Museveni’s continued leadership of the country.
“Those opposition politicians you see don’t care about your future; their main goal is to serve their own interests and those of their close relatives,” Mubajje said.
He advised them never to waste time on such individuals and instead focus on participating in government-led programs, including PDM, Emyooga, and others, urging the youths to remain focused on acquiring productive knowledge, including life skills, without neglecting Islamic teachings.
Mubajje’s statements come as the President visits Kigezi sub-region as part of his ongoing efforts to assess the impact of the PDM across the country. The PDM aims to enhance household incomes and lift millions of households out of poverty.
