The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP), Mathias Mpuuga, has declared that he will not leave the National Unity Platform (NUP) party despite what he called organised efforts to push him out.

Mpuuga remarked this on March 26, 2024, during a media briefing at Parliament, stating that he’s a founder of the party and among the founding blocks of the NUP party, adding that he is not ready to leave the party.

The Parliamentary Commissioner assured the entire NUP leadership, membership, supporters, and the general public that NUP is his party and has no intention whatsoever of leaving.

“Let me now assure the entire NUP leadership, membership, supporters and the general public, that NUP is my party and I haber no intentions whatsoever of leaving! I am going nowhere rather, I will in the coming days embark on the process of instituting internal party reforms to make it a credible and competent government in waiting,” Mpuuga stated.

He urged that, in the event of any emerging disagreements in the party, they should be addressed through commitment and goodwill and not through mischievous intentions.

He, however, insisted that he did not commit any crime in regards to any form of corruption because he is in a struggle for a fair Uganda and nobody will invite him into corruption. Mpuuga added that when they, as a party, disagree on anything, as change-seeking forces, they find mechanisms for mutual resolution.

Mpuuga was recently accused by his party of corruption related to the Ugx 500 million Service Award as a Parliamentary Commissioner.
