A section of legislators has continued to shun their offices at Parliament amidst intensified police investigations into the corruption allegations.

This stemmed from the arrest of three MPs, including Yusuf Mutembuli of Bunyole East in Butaleja District, the Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Legal Committee, Cissy Namujju, the Lwengo District Woman Representative, and Paul Akamba of Busiki County.

The trio were arrested on June 10, 2024, and are currently being detained at Kira Police Division.

Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development and also Secretary to the Treasury, cautioned MPs against shunning their offices.

He said the legislators shouldn’t fear coming to parliament because that is where they belong.
“Many MPs have always played budget games by tinkering with the estimates presented before them,”Ggoobi stated.

He further stated that all those involved will be rounded up by the police, even though they boycott coming to parliament.

Ggoobi revealed that so many officials will appear at the CID headquarters in Kibuli to answer corruption queries.

MP Theodore Ssekikubo of Lwemiyaga County expressed concern on Wednesday that most legislators may boycott the Thursday budget reading to avoid being picked by the Police.

President Museveni, while delivering the 2024 State of the Nation Address at Kololo Independence Grounds on June 6, 2024, said he had secured overwhelming evidence about how some MPs and Finance Ministry staff were running a racket to influence budget processes.
