MPs Pay Tribute to 42 People Killed in Kasese ADF Attack

Members of parliament have paid special tribute to the 42 people, including students of Lhubiriha Secondary School, who were killed during the recent raid by the Allied Democratic Force rebels in Kasese district.

This was conducted on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, during the parliamentary plenary session chaired by the Speaker, Anita Anet Among.

While chairing the session, Speaker Among described the incident as tragic and unproductive.

“The incidence is tragic and opens up the scars of similar tragedies that have been committed against innocent students in schools in Uganda. The attack is unproductive, and I request that the executive ensure that the matter is investigated and perpetrators are brought to book,” she said.

She also directed the Ministry of Defense to present detailed information regarding the attack.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, said what happened in Kasese district is a regrettable incident, and the government is going to present a statement through the Ministry of Education.

On Friday, June 17th, 2023, at around 11 p.m., suspected ADF rebels raided Lhubiriha Secondary School, Mpondwe Border, in Kasese district, killing some 37 students and five residents and abducting a total of six students.

Security on Tuesday confirmed that of the six students who had been abducted, three have returned.

President Museveni ordered the deployment of more soldiers to the Rwenzori Region on June 18th to intensify the fight against the rebels.
