President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered an urgent investigation into alleged mismanagement of public funds in Mpigi District, following complaints raised by residents during his campaign visit.

The President, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, issued the directive while addressing a rally at Mpigi Police Playground on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The order followed petitions from local residents accusing district officials of mismanaging funds under the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other government programmes.

According to the residents, several beneficiaries of the PDM reportedly received less than the stipulated Shs1 million, while some funds meant for development projects particularly road works were allegedly diverted or misappropriated.

Responding to the concerns, President Museveni said government auditors would be deployed to establish the facts and hold those responsible accountable.

“I am going to deploy my auditors here, and those found culpable will be arrested and prosecuted,” the President said.

He warned local leaders against corruption and cautioned residents not to support what he described as political jokers, urging them instead to actively participate in government-backed wealth creation programmes aimed at improving household incomes.

Several NUP leaders in Mpigi defected to the ruling NRM party and were welcomed by President Museveni.

President Museveni also reiterated the NRM’s commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring that public resources directly benefit ordinary citizens.

He emphasized that misuse of funds undermines development and public trust in government programmes.

The First Lady, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, who accompanied the President, urged residents to strongly support the ruling party in the forthcoming elections, setting a target of 70 percent voter support for the NRM.

She called on residents to translate the enthusiasm shown at campaign rallies into votes on polling day, arguing that supporting the NRM was essential for maintaining peace, unity, and stability.

“When you vote for NRM, you vote for unity, peace, and stability. Voting for the opposition is voting for disunity and conflict,” she said.

Maama Janet highlighted Uganda’s relative stability compared to some neighbouring countries that continue to experience insecurity, noting that instability has forced many people to seek refuge in Uganda.

President Museveni concluded by highlighting the NRM’s achievements over the past four decades, citing peace, economic development, wealth creation, and job opportunities as key milestones.

Meanwhile, the NRM campaign trail continues, with President Museveni scheduled to campaign in Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, as part of his tour of the Greater Luwero region.
