Hon. Francis Zaake, Member of Parliament representing Mityana Municipality, stormed the Constitutional Court in Kampala today, June 5, 2023, to demand the outcome of a petition he had filed to challenge his dismissal as a commissioner of Parliament.

Hon. Zaake who was accompanied by his lawyer, Erias Lukwago, assured the media that he would fight tooth and nail to get justice for what he called his wrongful removal from office.

“Our job is to fight for justice till the end. We will patiently wait for the court to decide who is wrong and who is right,” Zaake said.

According to Elias Lukwago, the case has taken a long time in court, and his client is being treated unfairly since a petition was filed in June 2022 to quash the move to remove Zaake as commissioner of Parliament.

Justice Geoffrey Kiryabiwre, the court’s administrator, however, informed Hon. Zaake that the court had a personnel shortage on quorum as a result of Justice Steven Musota’s promotion to the Supreme Court. On the panel that heard Mr. Zaake’s petition, Justice Musota was one of the five judges.

In February 2022, Hon. Zaake was accused of insulting Rt. Hon. Anita Among on social media, which prompted Members of Parliament to vote Zaake out of the Parliamentary Commission office.

A report of the committee on rules, privileges, and discipline, chaired by Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu, found Zaake guilty of using insulting language in total breach of the House rules of procedure and code of conduct.
