The Kampala Central legislator, Muhammad Nsereko, has suggested a reduction in the cost riding license to ensure mass acquisition by boda-boda operators.

MP Nsereko, while raising matters of national importance in Parliament on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, said many boda-boda operators are without licenses due to the high cost of acquisition.

“We don’t say no to acquiring a riding license for the cycles, but the price is extremely high,” said Nsereko.

He also decried the brutal arrest of cyclists by law enforcers within the city.

“There is a sweeping arrest and detention of boda-boda riders in the city; a reduction in the fee will make it accessible, affordable, and usable for every cyclist,” Nsereko added.

Additionally, he said that some law enforcement officers, including police, are extorting money from these people.

He said that keeping motorcycles at the police station is not only dangerous but also a security threat.

Traffic police officers within the Kampala Metropolitan areas have within the past one week been conducting massive operation to apprehend boda boda operators without license.
