The Member of Parliament for Bubulo East, John Musila, commonly known as Rasta, has announced plans to hold a press conference on Thursday, August 15, 2024, aimed at unveiling opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) who allegedly claim travel expenses without actually traveling.
Musila made these remarks while discussing echoes of recent African uprisings on August 5, 2024, on a local television.
He emphasized that while parliament is actively working to combat corruption, the opposition may be attempting to shield themselves from accountability.
Musila called for a thorough audit of travel records, highlighting that opposition MPs received a significant portion of travel funds.
“We must address these issues collectively rather than targeting a single individual,” Musila said.
“The conversation should focus on broader financial mismanagement rather than personal attacks,” Musila added.
However, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party deputy spokesperson, noted that the ongoing protests are not solely about corruption but also about addressing financial mismanagement within a select group that is impacting national resources.
Musila’s press conference is anticipated to shed light on the alleged misuse of funds and hold those responsible accountable.
Musila’s comments come amidst growing scrutiny of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, raising concerns over whether the criticism is being disproportionately directed at her alone.
